PayPal wins silver award at World Media Festival
The "swine flu" spot, developed by BB&K, is praised by the jury for its unconventional approach.

Oberhausen, 21 May 2010
The online payment service PayPal has won the Silver Award at the World Media Festival 2010 in Hamburg. The PayPal Marketing Team received the much-coveted award in the Cinema Commercials category for an advertising spot that was presented throughout Germany last autumn. The spot skilfully picks up the sensitive topic of swine flu which excited the public and media during the winter months. Thanks to its provocative content and entertaining presentation, the spot is highly memorable, despite its brevity of only 15 seconds. The jury was particularly impressed by the general idea and story line of the advert. “Although we used rather an awkward subject and therefore broke certain rules, we still remained likeable,” said Dominik Dommick, Director of Marketing and Communication at PayPal Germany as he explained the success of the spot with the public and the jury. The spot had been planned and implemented together with the new media agency Bassier, Bergmann & Kindler (BB&K). “PayPal appeals to a very broad group of customers, so we had to find a topic that was both universal and relevant,” said Christoph Hubertus and Christian Friedrich, BB&K’s Managing Directors in Oberhausen. “We are pleased that we did the right thing by choosing the swine flu theme for PayPal,” they added.

The spot was shown in 58 German cities for a period of five weeks. Year after year the World Media Festival awards internationally outstanding productions in each of four different categories: corporate film, TV, web and print production.
